Collins & Lacy Shareholder Christian Stegmaier to Present at 2011 DRI Strictly Retail Conference

Collins & Lacy, PC attorney Christian Stegmaier will present at the 2011 DRI Strictly Retail Conference in Chicago.

The May 12, 2011 presentation is entitled “Current Trends in Loss Prevention and Security.” Stegmaier will present along with a representatives from J.C. Penny Corporation and Belk, Inc. The seminar will discuss experiences and best practices on a number of issues, including negligent security cases involving the criminal acts of third parties and how to investigate, defend and avoid those cases; the new reality in the age of austerity—challenges to retailers by using non-loss prevention associates to handle loss prevention issues and claims; trends in incidence/prevalence and detection and apprehension in shoplifting and organized retail crime; evaluating the exposure of a “bad stop;” and valuing claims where no special damages exist.

Christian Stegmaier is a shareholder of Collins & Lacy and Chair of the Firm’sRetail/Hospitality/Entertainment Practice Group.  Stegmaier also is Professor of Hotel & Restaurant Law at the College of Hospitality, Retail & Sport Management at the University of South Carolina. He is the founder of the South Carolina Retail and Hospitality Law Blog, which is a blog for retailers and hospitality-related entities doing business in South Carolina.
