The South Carolina Self-Insurers Association, Inc. (SCSIA) is a great organization dedicated to supporting employers self-insured for workers’ compensation in South Carolina. Under the direction of President David Benenhaley, the SCSIA also is an effective voice at the South Carolina General Assembly and before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission. Many of South Carolina’s largest employers belong to the association, along with claims professionals and legal firms handling workers’ compensation. Rebecca Halberg, Aisha Taylor and I are active in the association, and I recently attended the annual Members-Only Forum.
The SCSIA’s newsletter is always very informative, and this spring’s edition is no exception. Among other useful information, it provides a case law update and addresses the burning question of how the Second Injury Fund (SIF) will discharge its liabilities. I like the opening line of the article: “Reports of the demise of the SIF appear to have been greatly exaggerated.” You can read a copy of the South Carolina Self-Insurers Association Comp News here. Enjoy!
