[COLUMBIA, S.C. January 17, 2011] – Collins & Lacy, P.C. is pleased to announce attorney Kristian Cross has been chosen to serve on the board of Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands.
Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) is one of 16 rape crisis centers in South Carolina. This private, non-profit was established in 1983. STSM provides crisis intervention, advocacy and support services to child and adult survivors of sexual assault and abuse in Richland, Lexington and Newberry Counties. The organization also educates the public about issues that arise or are often associated with sexual trauma cases.
Like many people in South Carolina, Kristian has family and friends who have been affected by violence. Kristian says her mother was very active in Sistercare, an organization that helps battered women and children by offering services including shelter.
“When I was little, I used to go with my mom to bring supplies and visit with some of those victims. I saw the good that people can do by helping others,” Kristian says.
That’s why Kristian was excited when a board member from STSM contacted her and asked her to be part of the team.
“This is a very active board. I know we are going to be very busy, and I am really looking forward to it.”
As an attorney with Collins & Lacy, Kristian’s job is to help South Carolina businesses stay in business. “The people here realize in order to do that, they need to help the citizens of South Carolina. That’s one of the things that really attracted me to this firm,” Kristian says.
