Goodwill: Good for jobs, good for business and good for Joy!

Joy Boitnott

Tonight, Collins & Lacy will be a sponsor for the 5th Annual Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands South Carolina Champions Tribute dinner

This is an organization that I am very passionate about. Goodwill is a company everyone can get behind because it supports employment, businesses and, yes, even fashion (just check out its Facebook page). Most important, Goodwill gets people in our community who had some barrier to employment back to work.

Joy Boitnott is one of those people. As last year’s winner of the 2012 Lloyd Auten Achiever of the Year Award, Joy is a wonderful example of Goodwill’s mission being put into action. She found Goodwill through the Department of Disabilities and Special needs, where Joy and her parents sought guidance on employment opportunities.

Through the education and training Goodwill provided, Joy was able to build confidence and gain independence that eventually led to a full-time position at Goodwill. Joy now works in the E-Commerce Department where she scans, sorts and posts books to sell online. The money from the sale of those books goes back into supporting Goodwill’s mission, and Joy continues to be an exceptional ambassador for Goodwill.

After six years of serving on the Goodwill Industries Board and the Goodwill Foundation Board, I get to see firsthand the tremendous impact Goodwill has on people such as Joy.

Small acts of donating to Goodwill and supporting events like tomorrow night’s dinner enable Goodwill to provide a significant benefit to the citizens of South Carolina through the POWER OF WORK.
