Robert Goings joined Collins & Lacy as an associate in 2006. Robert practices in civil litigation involving business torts, employment law, healthcare litigation, defective products, professional malpractice, “bad faith” insurance claims, catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death claims, criminal defense, civil rights and constitutional law. During law school, Robert clerked almost fulltime at Collins & Lacy, participated in Moot Court, and served as an editor of the Southeastern Environmental Law Journal. Robert is a natural leader and a strong courtroom advocate.
Practice Focus/Trial Experience
- Commercial Litigation- Collections and contract disputes for national floorplanner for automotive dealership, UCC - Article 9 related matters, consignments, breach of trust, issues that arise when securities are sold out of trust, and collection matters, non-compete and non-solicitation covenants, trade secrets, and tortuous interference with contracts.
- Employment Litigation - College and university law with an emphasis on wrongful discharge, retaliatory discharge, breach of employment agreement, breach of trade secrets and Federal 28 U.S.C. Section 1983 claims.
- Healthcare Litigation - Represents physicians and physician groups in contract disputes, tortuous interference with the right to practice, physician peer review, proceedings, and wrongful revocation or suspension of hospital privileges.
- Products Liability - Represents manufacturers, distributors, retailers,and consumers and matters relating to defective design and lack of warnings, for products and food manufacturers.
- Professional Liability - Represents physicians, attorneys, accountants, financial and insurance professionals, in claims including professional malpractice negligence and breach of fiduciary duty.
- Catastrophic Injuries - Represents national distributor/convenience store in the state of South Carolina in cases involving injuries relating to product defects, premises liability, general negligence, automobile cases, and signifcant motor vehicle accidents.
- White-Collar Crime - Defense of persons accused by state and federal authorities of violations of securities and tax laws.
- Constitutional & Civil Rights Litigation - Represents private and public entities and individuals in claims involving violations of constitutional and civil rights ranging from electioneering and campaign laws to wrongful arrests and police misconduct.
